The goal of the REC's Scholarship Program - THRIVE - is to provide resources to middle and high school students of color to sharpen their knowledge, skills, and abilities to improve their academic preparedness and career mobility. We seek to address development biases that contribute to high school dropout rates and unemployment rates within diverse communities. Loury (2019) defines development bias as impediments that block access for students of color to those resources necessary to develop and refine their talents.
Roan Educational Consulting, LLC. (REC) is committed to contributing to the increased persistence and academic performance of students of color. The Stanford Report (2017) acknowledges the academic performance for all students improved over the last 25 years but also reaffirmed Black and Hispanic students experienced the fastest improvement.
These progressive signs are supported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics that confirmed an increase in post-secondary enrollment by students of color, stating, “from 2000 to 2018, college enrollment rates among 18- to 24-year-olds increased for those who were Black (from 31 to 37 percent) and Hispanic (from 22 to 36 percent)".
REC is determined to support students’ academic performance and skill development by ensuring they have the resources to sharpen their knowledge, skills, and abilities to improve their academic preparedness and career mobility. Our annual goal of $20,000 for the THRIVE program fulfills that mission. By investing each year, we believe our scholars will "Pay It Forward" by reinvesting in aspiring scholars through donations and mentorship.
We sincerely appreciate your generosity and support of our THRIVE scholars. Help us expand our reach and support more students in need. Donate Today!
Thank you!
