On Friday June 14, 2024, a Hyundai Elantra drove into our 744sq apartment through the glass sliding door striking my husband Chris injuring his spinal cord and wounding his knee. 

 Thursday June 13th, Chris worked a double shift. From 6am-3pm, then again at 5:30pm-3am. Friday morning I called my mother asking her to watch our 1 year old son as I was running errands and told her Chris would be asleep in our bedroom and he would wake up in the middle of the day to send her home. 

Chris woke up from sleep and did just that. In the middle of the day, Chris put our son for his nap, sat down on the couch and heard a vehicle revving outside, moments later that car drove into our living room, sending the Traeger Grill that was on our patio, the sliding door/frame, and part of the wall barreling through with it. My husband was hit and pinned by the car against the wall. From the adrenaline that was pulsing through his body, he managed to break free from the wreckage and ran into our bedroom that was right next door to grab our son, fearing the car would burst into flames. He broke through the blinds and the window net to safety where he was met with neighbors who saw what happened. 

 The first thing he said to me after I rushed home was “I almost didn’t make it to Father’s Day”.
