Leo’s journey

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read Leo’s story.

We are hoping to raise £500 for Southampton Hospital E1 Ocean Ward and £500 for Ronald MacDonald House. This money will go a long way to helping other families at their time of need. We have been lucky enough to be looked after by both, so we’d like to give something back if we can.

Leo was born in December 2024 with a complex heart condition, known in the medical word as ‘TOF’ or Tetralogy of Fallot. (TOF) is a congenital heart defect that involves four structural abnormalities in the heart. It's a type of congenital heart disease, which means the heart's structure and function are affected by abnormal development before birth.

Leo has the following conditions

DORV

Double outlet right ventricle (DORV) is a heart disease that is present from birth (congenital). The aorta connects to the right ventricle (RV, the chamber of the heart that pumps oxygen-poor blood to the lungs), instead of to the left ventricle (LV, the chamber that normally pumps oxygen-rich blood to the body).

VSD

A ventricular septal defect (VSD) is a hole in the heart that's present at birth (congenital heart defect). The hole is between the lower heart chambers (right and left ventricles). It allows oxygen-rich blood to move back into the lungs instead of being pumped to the rest of the body.

Pulmonary Stenosis

Pulmonary stenosis, or pulmonic stenosis, is a heart condition where the pulmonary valve (between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery) is narrowed, restricting blood flow to the lungs. This can lead to the right ventricle working harder and potentially thickening, and symptoms can range from none to fatigue, shortness of breath, and chest pain.
