Leo Clarke Family Support Fund
Five months after undergoing heart surgery, our beloved Leo lost his battle with congestive heart failure. The team at UCSF Medical Center did everything it could, but multiple stokes and seemingly every possible setback finally proved too much. On August 27th Leo left us, having fought every inch of the way.
Through it all, his family was at his side. His wife, Betsy, drove nearly every day from the family home in Santa Rosa to the hospital in San Francisco, acting as Leo’s advocate and providing unwavering love and support. Despite the demands of work, college and high school, their three sons let their dad know how much he was loved.
But now Leo’s family needs our support.
Despite a successful career as a television producer, Leo’s long health struggles have left a heavy burden. Even good health insurance doesn’t cover the costs of out-of-network ambulance rides and the rehabilitation facility or the cost to his family of missed days at work, travel to the hospital and even parking ($37 a day!). The after-death costs are now starting to build up as well.
Betsy is a kindergarten teacher who still has two boys to put through college. Elliott has graduated but Oliver is a sophomore getting ready to transfer to a UC, and Theo is a high school senior— on the cusp of applying for college. Having watched Betsy fight for my brother day after day, and knowing the toll this has taken on her family, I thought of Go Fund Me as a way to show our love and support.
Whether this is in lieu of flowers or as a more general way to honor Leo, your donation would be very much appreciated.
