Yale Gospel Choir in New Orleans
Donation protected
Hello everyone! My name is Asia Brown, and I am the Vice President/Tour Manager of Yale Gospel Choir (YGC).
YGC is a 35 member undergraduate-student-run Christian choral group and ministry at Yale University. We were founded in 1973, and started from the Black Church at Yale, but we have since grown to be an independent performance and ministry group on Yale's campus.
The purpose and goal of the Yale Gospel Choir is to spread the gospel and love of Jesus Christ through song, in the Yale and New Haven communities, other colleges, churches and communities throughout the United States and the rest of the world. We have performed at venues within New Haven and the United States, and we have also ministered in countries such as India, Brazil, Puerto Rico and most recently Jamaica during Spring 2014.
From March 7-March 18, 26 members of choir will be going on tour to New Orleans, Louisiana. This will be our biggest tour in recent history, in terms of the number of members attending, and this location was chosen because of the abundance of opportunities to serve. Not only will we be singing to our audiences, but we will also be performing community service at homeless shelters, and places in the Lower 9th Ward, and visiting schools. There are parts of New Orleans that are still terribly affected post-Katrina, and the goal is to bring the gift of joy through song, and help out as much as possible while there.
Tour is funded primarily through donations, and this goal would help to cover the costs of housing and transportation to the airport from Yale. We will need to cover the cost of food, and in location transportation, so please help us out! Not only will you be helping us, but also the people we intend to serve while there!
Thank you so much!
