Fund a future..

Eleanor (one of our team) spent the last month teaching in this school. The absence of even the most basic items was heart breaking to discover, yet the smiles of the children remain constant. We're aiming to raise funds to repair the holes in the floor, provide educational posters/materials and hopefully, some basic kitchen equipment. Annaghmore Men's Shed is running this gofundme for Eleanor, and with your help and support, we can offer the funds necessary to offer some more smiles for those children seeking an education. "Nuru Primary school is located in a small village called Sakina in Arusha, Tanzania. Whilst volunteering in a teaching role there for four weeks, I had the pleasure of spending lots of time with the children of the area. These children amazed me with their resilience and positive outlook on life whilst living in poor conditions without the material things our own children take for granted. They arrived at school at 7. 30am every morning bursting with happiness and eager to take part in the lessons. They worked diligently with the minimum amount of materials needed in a learning environment. I witnessed them sharing pencils, rulers and erasers because they did not have enough for each pupil. This was also the case with the reading books and all the text books for each subject they studied. The classrooms were basic, with very old mismatched desks, the floors had no coverings and had huge patches of broken concrete which created dust and dirt when the children moved around. There was a stark absence of colourful, informative posters that normally adorn the walls of our primary schools to stimulate and interest the minds of the young. The teachers shared one text book on each subject between two classes, but this did not deter or discourage the young, bright, hungry minds of these happy, polite and eager young people. I feel honoured that I have had the opportunity to spend some time in a little school in a little village with teachers and pupils with big hearts and hopefully bright futures."
