Gaby's Medical Bills
Donation protected
Our beautiful mom Gabriela De La Parra has been stricken be a horrible disease IPF. (Info below) she was diagnosed about 3 years ago and slowly has been declining. Gabby never smoked or drank she always ate healthy and exercised there is no reason why she got this disease. It has robbed her of her energy and strength. Everything is difficult including eating and showering for her now. Because she has to breathe so rapidly and her heart rate is so high she has lost over 50 pounds in the last year. She is currently on oxygen 24/7.
There is no cure for this disease and the only thing that will save her life is a lung transplant. We are praying that she will gain weight so that she will qualify for a lung transplant in a couple of months.
Gabby is a beautiful woman, an amazing wife, mother and grandmother! She sacrificed many many years taking care of her sick parents and help take care of her grandchildren when she was healthy. Gabby and Alex have been married for over 45 years and have had a beautiful life together with 2 daughters Erika and Sylvia and 3 grandchildren Christian, Evan and Ariana! (And 2 wonderful son in laws Vince & Patrick )!
Unfortunately the cost of medical bills has become a huge burden. Alex had to retire early to stay home and care for mom. She has had to have 3 CT scans and numerous doctor visits in UCLA and the medical bills keep on piling up.
We are asking for everyone's help because the total cost of a single lung transplant is $561,200, which includes $10,300 for a month's worth of care leading up to the transplant; $73,100 for the procurement of the organ; $302,900 for hospital transplant admission;$33,500 for the surgeon; and$23,700 for immunosuppressants and other prescription drugs. Which insurance will only cover part of the cost. We appreciate any help the smallest donation means the world to us, it means saving our mom, wife and Grandma!

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a rare and serious irreversible lung disease. 'Idiopathic' means that the cause of the disease is unknown. 'Pulmonary' means it's a disease that impacts the lungs. 'Fibrosis' means scarring. In all, 'IPF' means an unknown factor is causing scarring of the lungs. Over time, this scarring makes it difficult for the lungs to expand as you breathe. This is what's known as a restrictive lung disease.
About 5 million people are affected globally. The disease newly occurs in about 12 per 100,000 people per year. Those in their 60s and 70s are most commonly affected. Males are affected more often than females. Average life expectancy following diagnosis is about four years.
