Gage's Top Chop Fund

Hello everyone,

My name is Gage, and I am reaching out with a bit of a vulnerable ask. This is out of character and completely uncomfortable. ANYWAY... I’m non-binary and I’ve been waiting on the chopping block (the wait list for top surgery) for over three years, and I finally have a surgery date, it’s March 11th. The surgery itself is covered by my OHIP approval, for which I am very grateful. However, I am reaching out for support to help cover some of the additional costs that come with a surgery of this degree.

I am also a parent to a pretty rad 11-year-old. As fate would have it, her March break aligns with my surgery date. To ensure she gets to enjoy her time while I am undergoing the procedure, I am seeking assistance to cover the costs of sending her to a fun day camp during that week.

Additionally, I am hoping to stay in closer proximity to my surgeon's office for a couple of days post-surgery. This incurs expenses such as accommodation, food, and other essentials necessary for a comfortable recovery. My surgeon’s clinic is near Toronto, so it’s just far enough that traveling back and forth will not be ideal for the necessary follow-up visits.

I normally don’t ask for things in this way, but those in my inner circle know how much I’ve wanted this. I am trying to be as prepared as possible for everything that could go wrong or right, and having any amount of money to buffer the stress will make a difference. I put the limit as $2,500, because I’ve been googling go-fund-me’s for top surgery’s for days now and it seems like a mid range amount that people ask for in a similar situation to mine. (Can you tell that I’m a Virgo.)
