Gai Mou Sou Rap--Seniors Against Violence

Tax deductible
San Francisco Grandmas are making a stance against violence by rapping with their gai mou sou (chicken-feather duster), a traditional Chinese symbol of authority and moral compass.

Clarion Performing Arts Center proudly presents the Grant Avenue Follies. Since 2004 the Follies, a senior cabaret group, has been performing in benefits and entertaining communities in the Bay Area and beyond . The violence that has been inflicted on our seniors in recent months spurs the Follies to take off their blings and pick up their gai mou sou. Thus, the Gai Mou Sou Rap is born.

Clarion is the home of the Follies and provides a safe space for the group to rehearse. Our goal is to produce a professional recording of Gai Mou Sou Rap to be played at anti-Asian violence rallies. We would also produce a music video and share it as an empowerment for all the Chinese communities. Please help us in achieving this goal.

Your donation to the Gai Mou Sou Rap will help us pay for:

Artist and musicians
Audio recording, mixing and editing
Choreographer
Video director
Camera & lighting rentals
Shoot location rentals
Editing & post production
Costume & props
Rehearsal space

Gai Mou Sou Rap is written by the Follies' own poet, Gumting. Artwork of Chinatown Grandma by Leland Wong.

This is an imminent project. Clarion and the Follies feel compelled to bring the rap to life, to make a strong statement, to remind others the value and vitality of the seniors, and to beat violence with grace.

Clarion Performing Arts Center is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization in the heart of San Francisco Chinatown. Your donation to this project is tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Visit Clarion's website at: https://clarionmusic.com/
