On behalf of the Hart & Thomas Clan, I wanted to take this time personally to say Ki Na Na Skomitinowow to everyone who came together to support our family during our Cree Matriarch, Mother, Grandmother & Language Speaker, Kiwetinah Wapiskeeh Mahekan Iskweew, Gail Catherine Pelletier’s sickness, death, funeral & burial.
My nineteen-month sobriety anniversary passed while our clan travelled north to our family cemetery located on our family's trapline in northern Manitoba near our First Nation, Pukatawagan in Treaty Six Territory. This was a tough one for me as I am my Mama’s firstborn, the oldest grandchild of my Mother’s Mother, and my late Kokum, Pelegie. I am not the man I was before she made her journey and I am grateful to be sober and present during this experience. I had to balance grieving with curating this event for my beautiful bears Felix Peter and Jaxson Gray.
So far with the funds raised, we have been able to support the feeding of over 100 relations, provide critical transportation coverage for the siblings and we were able to cover all our mother's children's December 2024 rent as none of us worked the last month of our Mom's life as we were with her in hospice.
We are still shy of our goal and need your help covering the acquisition of a headstone for our mother and further help for her children to recover economically from this time away from work. I would like to have her obituary published with a nice picture in the Winnipeg Free Press and some funds to pay for the printing of commemoration posters of a collage of Mom’s photos that my sister and brother created for her funeral viewings. These commemoration posters will be given to all her grandchildren and the family so they can all have memorial posters of our Matiarch.
We need help for our brother Angel Storm Pelletier who lived with our mother and is on disability. He will need help covering Mom's portion of his rent until he can get some training and employment going and secure a bachelor apartment for himself and his cat Snowflake.
During our Mother’s final journey north to her homelands in #Treatysix, all the elements of the natural world, our ancestors and the universe united together and gave her the most beautiful Cree burial we have ever witnessed. For that I raise my hands and express Hiy Hiy’ Our family and loved ones are eternally grateful for this honouring from our community, Nation, natural world and the universe.
Every share and donation to this crowdfunding campaign helps our family get closer to completing this sacred work. Bereavement Gifts can be made to the family: https://gofund.me/239f394a *LINKINBIO or in Canada by E-transfer to monsterredlight at gmail dot com.
