"Anything is possible when you have the right people to support you." Misty Copeland
Hi, my name is Sioban Hessler and I have been friends with Gail for what feels like forever. We were college roommates, sorority sisters, and mothers of twins. We've navigated the road of love, loss, motherhood, new homes, new jobs, and new futures. We have that kind of relationship where we stop what we are doing to chat... if just to say "can I talk to you about this later?". We are always there for each other, supporting each other... as I'm sure she has been for many of you.
Gail has recently fallen on some hard times with her health. Three years ago she had a total hip replacement, shortly after recovering from that she had a fall that damaged her back. In June she had major spine fusion laminectomy surgery to rectify that injury. After her back surgery, she was unable to regain her strength to do day-to-day tasks, and she has not been able to return to work. About a month ago she noticed she had some abdominal swelling and tried to correct her gut health at home, but about a week before Christmas, she checked herself into the ER. After a lot of testing and waiting, Gail has been diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of Burkitt lymphoma in her stomach lining. She has been transported to Hackensack Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ where they are more qualified to treat this rare type of lymphoma. Unfortunately, aggressive cancers require aggressive treatments and risks.
If you know Gail, you know she is a very strong and independent woman who can handle things by herself, but I begged her to let me set up this page for her. On top of her health concerns, she is dealing with some major home repairs that involve the necessary remodeling of her only bathroom caused by a slow unknown water leak, which is not being covered by homeowners insurance. Gail's children and friends are doing their best to get this remediated as soon as possible, but it would be a relief to have some financial support to get these projects completed.
First I'm asking you all for prayers for my dear friend, but also I'm asking for your financial support, so Gail can fully be centered on her healing and recovery.
