Galway and Mayo Mountain rescue

Hi, My name is Joseph Staunton. On the 15 June 2024 i will be taking on the biggest adventure of my life. Gaelforce west is an adventure race based in the west of Ireland that takes in a scenic run, kayak & Cycle and in the mountains, fjords and roads of Galway and Mayo. I want to complete this in aid of the Galway and Mayo Mountain rescue with the sum being raised being split equally between both services.

So why Galway and Mayo Mountain rescue? Its only when a disaster hits your own door step that you can really appreciate the work put in by these Hero Volunteers.

On the 20 of March 2024 our wonderful brother Thierry decided to make the Journey to Mt Tully in the beautiful Connemara Co. Galway not knowing that it would be the last hike he would ever do. It was a clear beautiful day with super views over the mountain top. He sat down to take in the view at the top and took his last breath and sadly passed away.

His love for the outdoors was only matched by his love for music and Father Ted. We miss him more than words can tell.

The work carried out by An Garda Síochána (Clifden Station) and the Galway Mountain rescue team who recovered our brother with such sensitivity and grace are to be highly commended. These Hero's are volunteers who leave there dinner on the table, child's play or brothers wedding to go and help people in need, not knowing what they may be walking into. I am so in there debt for what they have done for my family that i decided to raise funds to help these self funded agencies.

So for everyone that reads this post, please donate what you can. Every cent of your donation will go towards helping the Galway and Mayo mountain rescue teams react too call outs and save lives on the beautiful mountains of Galway and Mayo.

Rest in Peace my brother,

for the hill of life was steep,

you found your way to keep,

the smiles and laughter so deep.

In time the pain of loss may ease,

but the memories we have made will not

I keep you in my thoughts,

and remember all our walks.

We explored the highs and lows

and the beauty of Galway and Mayo

Its here you will now reside

as I take my walks with you by my side.
