GameLit Society philanthropy pt 2
Hi! My name is Blaise Corvin, and I am a professional Science Fiction/Fantasy author.
I started a Facebook group for the genre I write in (GameLit) in September of 2016. This group is called GameLit Society, and we are nearly 5k strong now.
In 2017, with the help of some other writers and the Society mods, we raised over $1000 for Shriners kids. The old posts for that effort (where I deeply embarrassed myself for a good cause) can be found here:
So now we are going to raise money for sick kids again and try to double the amount we raised last year. Just like I did before, I will make screen shots of the final donation public.
This time around, the Society group is larger, and more active than ever before. On top of that, GameLit fans are some of the coolest people I have ever met in the world. Everyone's generosity last time blew me away.
I learned my lesson last time, in fact--nobody cared about the rewards. So this time, I am going to run this charity event until the end of November, in plenty of time to make the donation before Christmas, without any rewards at all.
Plenty of authors have said they are going to send free swag to folks who contribute, but I believe even that motivation will be unnecessary. GameLit readers and authors have huge hearts.
