GameLit Society Philanthropy pt 3

Donation protected

Hi!  My name is Blaise Corvin, and I am a professional Science Fiction/Fantasy author.

I started a Facebook group for the genre I write in (GameLit) in September of 2016.  This group is called GameLit Society, and we are over 7k strong now!

GameLit Society

In 2018, with the help of some other writers and the Society mods, we raised over $6000 for Shriners kids.  Special thanks to the very generous professional narrators, readers, and authors who gave more than their fair share!

The link for the GoFundMe effort from last year can be found here:

2018 GoFundMe

Shriners Hospitals for Children continues to impress the heck out of me.  They're even working on nerve transfer surgeries for kids!

Nerve Transfer Story

So here we are again, trying to raise money for sick kids, and this year, I think we will do even better!

Shriners hospitals are always innovating, and it costs a heck of a lot of money to do so.  Some of the articles I've seen from the organization have caught my attention in a major way.  For instance, news of how they're partnering with other organizations to get sick kids to the hospital even faster is awesome.  These efforts can seriously help save little lives.  They're also likely not cheap.

Airlift story

I know people who have been saved by Shriners as a child, or whose child has received care.  There are also individuals in the GameLit Society group (a reading group focused on the GameLit genre--fiction with video game tropes) with similar stories.

I am optimistic that we can make a difference.  The GameLit Society just keeps growing, and the GameLit genre is full of really excellent people who haven't let me down, and damn sure haven't let sick kids down in the past.

As I said in 2018, I know better than to offer rewards for a GoFundMe like this.  Nobody cares about rewards, at least not here.  Instead, I'll just be running this charity (no frills) until the end of November, again with plenty of time to make donations before Christmas.

December can be super stressful, I think we all understand that.

Instead of rewards via GoFundMe, I'm encouraging other authors to offer rewards in the GameLit Society thread I will create about this philanthropy.  Last year, authors volunteered to give away free books and swag to readers after receiving proof they'd given to this charity drive, likely in the form of screenshots.

Props to my fellow authors who were on the ball with this sort of thing last year.  I knew some authors might give stuff away, but I hadn't realized how easy it could be.

Anyway, as I said last year, GameLit readers, authors, and narrators all have huge hearts.  I am confident that we can plug the financial foundation a little bit for Shriners to help them keep helping sick kids.

This is something I really believe in.  Writing is what I do to pay the bills, and hopefully be remembered for a bit after it's my time to shuffle off this mortal coil.  But giving to a reputable charity, helping sick kids...this is something I'm proud of being part of, and I'm even more proud of my community every year.
