Garden Marathon 2020
At 8pm on Thursday night I stood in the garden to clap for carers. As I looked up into the stars, I realised that I needed to do something more than just clap. The Guernsey Marathon would have taken place on Sunday 29th March and has been pushed back like many other races.
In Guernsey, we are in an essential state of lockdown with a 2 hour limit on exercise outside. Despite having trained for an ultra race, there was no chance that I would be the 2nd person to break 2 hrs for the marathon so instead I decided to run a marathon in our garden on Sunday morning.
I don’t normally ask for sponsorship for my runs but we are in different times and I wanted to make a contribution to Medecins Sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders to support their work around the world battling the pandemic.
It would be great to run for a cause rather than a time or placing.
The run was hard however we are blessed to have a good size garden and I was able to create a technical trail section with a decent climb. It added up to 3700ft over the marathon distance. Running a loop five times a mile was less boring than I imagined. I had a party mix with 258 tracks to keep me entertained and Alison my wife could cheer me on and give me peanut butter sandwiches and hydration fluid whenever I needed it. At the end we had a toilet roll finish line! The lawn now has a muddy trail on it.
It took me 4hrs 21 mins to complete.
Please support my run with a contribution small or large. Please also share this link with family, friends and colleagues.
