UPDATE from David 5/31/24:
Hi Family & Friends,
When you get diagnosed with an aggressive stage 4 prostate cancer and your biopsy result is a Gleason 10 you fear the worst and get to realize fast that you have a fight for your life on your hands.
So here we are AMAZING NEWS, 8 months later and I have just been informed by my oncologist Dr Hayes that after all the chemo therapy and bone infusions I have come out the other side and survived it.
I still have a few hot spots that show up on my scan results so may have some radiation therapy to deal with and the bone and hormone infusions will continue every 3 months which are a piece of cake compared to chemo. Thankfully NO more Chemo hence the celebration and ringing of the bell at the cancer center.
Getting through it has been tough with some exhausting and awful days as you can imagine. The chemo worked but no doubt the best medicine I received during this time was the love and support from my loving family. I will never forget each day going to bed early with Little Daisy and sometimes Callie and the dog, with me feeling as weak as a kitten listening to some of our favorite songs and feeling the comfort of those moments which has no doubt helped get me through it along with all the calls and messages from my kiddoes and all you nice people .
Thanks so so much for all your love and support and the many kind and generous donations I received towards cost of my treatment.
Please get checked! If I had not detected this when I did the outcome would have been so different! Lots of love and cheers David G xxx
David Gardiner and his wife Callie are the kind of friends that don’t come along often in this life. If you know them, then you already know what a blessing they are. There is nothing this incredible couple would not do for anyone in need…and now, they need us!
David, a devoted Husband, Father of three, Grandfather, a 25-year Vet with the Royal Air Force and just an all-around amazing guy, is currently fighting the battle of his life. Diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer on December 4th after, as timing would have it, being laid off in March from his job with CenturyLink after 17 years and subsequently losing his family’s health insurance which ran out in November. Go Figure.
David was diagnosed after blood tests in July showed a PSA of 5.2 and a subsequent biopsy of his prostate came back with very concerning results. Out of 10 cores samples 4 had a Gleason scale of 9 or 10 which meant they were dealing with an aggressive cancer and further scans needed to be done.
In October David had a PET scan and Bone scan which showed the cancer had metastasized to his bones and possibly lymphatic system. On Nov 21st after meeting with his Oncologist he had one last scan called PSMA Scan. A new technology which heat seeks cancer and shows actual metastasis spots with 100% accuracy. The results from this scan confirmed a rare case of aggressive stage 4 prostate cancer that has metastasized straight to his bones. Hormone treatment began immediately, and Chemo began December 13th. He will undergo 6 rounds of intensive IV chemo 3 weeks apart with Oncologist visits bloodwork and further scans in between.
David was reluctant to allow us to post this as he is not one to ask for help, but he and his family have an incredibly hard battle ahead and those of us who love this young family, well this is a way for us to help with this enormous financial burden they now face here in the USA and will allow them to focus on the physical battle of getting well. Thank you to all those that give and support this family in need!
