Gary Essig, Father, Grandfather & Friend
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Shannon and I'm Louis Essig's significant other.
Nothing can prepare you for the loss of your last parent. The individual that was the glue that kept the family together. Gary was most certainly the glue to the Essig family.
Not only does the loss of a parent inflict intense emotional pain and stress, but it also inflicts a large financial burden. Our hope is to alleviate some of that financial burden for Gary’s family. Your donation will help with outstanding medical bills as well as funeral/memorial expenses.
Gary was your all-American family man. He was drafted into the military right after high school and served his country as a member of the US Army. He returned home from the service and started a beautiful family in his hometown of Grandview Heights with his late wife, Julie. Gary loved his two children, Louis and Colleen, more than anything in this world. He was also a proud grandfather to six-year-old Jaden. He taught them strength, courage, and the skills to make it through tough times such as this one.
Even when Gary was diagnosed with advanced-stage lung cancer, he remained strong. He continued to stand behind his children throughout some of the toughest years of their lives. Gary was admitted to the hospital last week after an unexpected medical issue that was unrelated to his cancer diagnosis. He fought hard throughout his stay in the ICU, but ultimately lost the battle last night.
Gary will be remembered as a proud Grandview Bobcat, Ohio State fan, and most importantly an amazing father, grandfather, and friend.
In times like this, it’s important that we come together as a community and support the people we care for. Any donation, regardless of the amount, will help and is greatly appreciated.
*Update on 10/4/23- We will be holding a memorial service for Gary at Wyman Woods on 10/18/2023. More details to come.
