Gary Irvin Medical Bill and Living Costs Fund

On May 30, 2023, my dad, Gary Irvin, went to Urgent Care for what he thought was a “get some medicine, and I’ll be fine” infection in his foot. He was sent directly from Urgent Care to the ER because it was, in fact, a very bad infection. In the hospital, the doctors were forced to remove my dad’s toe to help prevent the spread of the infection. He was in the hospital for a total of 3 weeks, and was sent home on Wednesday, June 21st. Although he is at home, he must wear an IV in his arm and an infection pump still attached to his foot. The wound will not be closed for some time as he continues to heal, he still has another 3 weeks of antibiotics to make sure that the infection is under control. He cannot put weight on that foot, and he will need to have his wound stitched up later once the threat of infection is gone.

This would be a difficult ordeal for anyone, but on top of all of that, my dad is dealing with the financial hardships that this illness has caused. He thought that he was covered by medical insurance, but due to the short length of time at his current employer and a miscommunication about his medical coverage, he is not insured. He has been using sick time to pay for his expenses, but that has run out. The doctors haven’t given him a definite time to be able to return to work, but it will be an extended time off before he can put weight on his foot and drive. In the meantime, he is accruing huge medical bills and he needs to be able to pay for food, utilities, rent, etc. If you are in a position to contribute toward my dad’s expenses through this difficult time, we would greatly appreciate it.
