A service will be held on Saturday, March 12 from 2-4 pm at the Saraha Nyigma Buddhist Institute at 477 E. 40th in Eugene, OR
Funds from this project will go towards a memorial plaque in Gary’s honor in the new YMCA in Eugene, and a donation in his name and memorial ceremony at Zen Center's Green Gulch Monastery and Farm in California.
Gary was fiercely independent his entire life. He forged new paths in Buddhism, fitness and biometrics. As we look for ways to honor his remarkable life, a memorial at the new YMCA comes to mind. Countless current YMCA members will remember him, and a visible plaque in the new space, in honor of him, would surely make him proud.
Zen Center includes City Center in San Francisco, Tassajara in the mountains of Big Sur, and Green Gulch Monastery and Farm in the Bay area. Each of these places was significant to Gary in his Buddhist training. The current abbot of Green Gulch, Reb, Gary's teacher and friend, has offered to host a memorial ceremony in May to honor Gary. Funds from this project will become a donation for the ceremony and a commemorative plaque or place of remembrance on the grounds.
