Gaucher Awareness Month

October is Gaucher Disease Awareness month! Our sweet girl Zoey was diagnosed with Gaucher disease type 1 shortly after birth.

Gaucher disease is a rare genetic disorder that causes fatty substances to build up in the spleen and liver. Symptoms include joint and bone pain, anemia, bleeding issues, bruising issues and spleen enlargement.

Gaucher Community Alliance (GCA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization for the patient community by the patient community. The mission is to support patients with Gaucher disease, a rare genetic disorder, and their families through peer-to-peer support and education, advocacy, patient and family resources, and networking. Increased collaboration and emotional support among patients living with all types of Gaucher disease may alleviate some of the burden associated with this rare disorder.
