Gavin & Julia , in ICU Crisis Hawaii Covid - D

Hi, my cousin & his wife have been in ICU over 2 weeks & remain in critical condition. Gavin & Julia, both in late 50's, began with minor flu like symptoms; however, OTC meds didn't help & they were taken to hospital. That was over 2 weeks ago. Gavin's health rapidly deterioted & he was placed on ventilator, medically induced coma & isolated in ICU. Julia's health was not as critical when admitted & doctors/family, believed she would recover & be discharged. Unfortunately, as Gavin began to improve & slowly weaned from ventilator & induced coma, Julia became much sicker, respiratory system deterioted & she was placed in same treatment that Gavin was being weaned from.

The long period that Gavin remained on ventilator, his kidney functions were dramatically affected & doctors started treating this side affect. There was some improvement; however, Thursday (9/30) he required surgery to remove 10 kidney stones from left kidney. Doctors had hope for recovery; unfortunately, Friday he had "bleed out ( hemmorage)" & required several blood units. Late Saturday night, doctors told family that Gavin may require another surgery to remove left kidney & long term dialysis. Julia's doctor didn't have a positive prognosis either. She is undergoing tracehotomy this morning. Medical logic, she will be on ventilator for longer period than Gavin. The tracehotomy & this would be better treatment for her. Both remain in ICU.

Gavin & Julia are Hawaii citizens since birth, they live on Oahu. Gavin's parents are my aunt & uncle & in late 80's, their health is not well & the stress, worry & seeing their son & daughter-in-law, through ICU window, jeopardizing their health. Cookie, Gavin's sister (my cousin) continues to provide updates & this is an emotional roller coaster for the family (ohana).

Hawaiian culture considers ohana & religion sacred. Prayers & faith in Our Creator (God) are endless, as well as the belief that both Gavin & Julia will recover & sitting at their Thanksgiving table. However; since their hospitalization, the financial situation continues to increase, their employment is at risk & doctors cannot provide a prognosis.

I lost my son, Mike, to melanoma, 3 yrs ago & reaching out through "gofundme" for financial support & prayers assisted him & his family in his final months.

Please do the same for Gavin & Julia. Since the beginning of Covid-19, too many lives have ended in death & their families are left to grieve, many unable to be by their loved one's bed or even in the treatment facilities. Despite the numerous vaccines now available, the Covid-D strain continues to take lives, many are younger & have been vaccinated.
