Raising funds for Gavin Lain Neuro-Therapy

Hello friends,

 

We are two years removed from Gavin's life-altering accident. We know how blessed we are to have Gavin still with us, let alone able to reach so many goals that, frankly, we were told he never would. Yet, despite how well our son is doing in his day-to-day life, we believe he has so much more to achieve. This whole recovery process has been a series of ups and downs, some great victories and some goals still eluding him. Gavin's spirits are still amazingly positive, and he works his butt off doing therapies and full-time school. That being said, Gavin needs some new influences. In spite of his efforts, things are not coming relatively as easy as they used to. Physical Therapy sessions have been eliminated at Ranken Jordan (he still has Occupational Therapy), leaving us to do these things on our own.  They would rather concentrate on his daily living activities, than do the intense things needed to "wake up" his left side. We are paying out of pocket for his Feldenkrais Treatments, Upper Cervical Chiropractor,  PT specializing in the Stroth method, and Acupuncture, and trying to do our therapy at home. Gavin is not giving up, and neither are we.

Michele and I are constantly researching therapy innovations and treatments. One of our lovely nurses from Children's Hospital, with whom we stay in contact, told us about a place in Dallas, TX. It is called Bachik Methods and was started by a couple who endured a life-changing accident. The wife was left paralyzed, and when her Dr.s and therapists gave up on her recovery, she and her husband took matters into their own hands and came up with this intense method of re-mapping her nervous system. As a result, she can now walk short distances after a spinal cord injury!! Michele has talked with Kendell Bachik, and she is sure that she can help Gavin get over this hump and finish this miracle opportunity that God granted us.

This treatment is helping MANY people with very similar stories to Gavin every week. Unfortunately, none of it is covered by insurance. It is not considered a proven method by "conventional medicine" standards. This is the same "conventional medical" wisdom that told us Gavin would have no quality of life if he lived, which was also in question! This is why we ask for your help in paying for this treatment. We are on our own if we want to do anything that is not endorsed by mainstream medicine. Since the accident, Michele has had to leave work to be Gavin's full-time caregiver, cutting our income in half, literally. We have been using credit and equity out of our home to pay our medical bills and we just have nowhere else to turn.
