Gay Teen Werewolf

This short film is the tale of a young teen werewolf navigating queerness, familial obligation, and… high school. When the Gay Teen Werewolf meets Cassandra, a queer punk who might be a vampire, she thinks she’s finally escaped the banality of werewolf life on the Upper West Side and her stifling relationship with her girlfriend Kara. But things are not as they seem.
I am making this film because I have always been obsessed with teen literature, long after it seemed socially appropriate. I couldn’t understand why I kept wanting to return to these narratives, until I realized I was gay. I was obsessed I wanted that life so badly, a life where I wouldn’t feel out of place. I want to tell this story because I need to. I want to reclaim the parodies, the clichés and the beautiful clarity of young adult literature and marry them with the qualities of teen lit flicks I love the most. I want to invent a young teen who could exist in one of those stories I loved so much and recreate her. She already has a girlfriend, she’s already out of the closet. In the buoyant world of fantasy fiction, where so many children have had the freedom to explore narratives of oppression and to fantasize better worlds for themselves, my fictional werewolf teen gets to have a childhood.
The 3,500 dollars raised will all go to making this film the best it can be, getting proper prosthetics and excellently spooky werewolf costuming, supporting payment for all cast and crew and helping out with equipment insurance. The cast, crew and locations are all set. Now we just need a little extra help to make it all happen!
