Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimage: Walking to Help Gaza
Tax deductible
My name is Amy Vernon and while March 9 is my birthday, it is more importantly when several communities in Seattle have chosen to come together to walk the length of Gaza, 41 kilometers (25 miles).
The Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimage (https://www.gazaceasefirepilgrimage.com) is a global effort, taking place in over 100 cities during Lent, and all those participating are seeking to act in nonviolent solidarity with objectives as follows:
1. Enduring and Sustained Ceasefire.
2. Immediate flow of life saving food, water, aid, fuel and humanitarian assistance.
3. Release of all held prisoners or hostages.
4. End of occupation so a just-peace can begin.
The three main goals for funds are:
Relief: Humanitarian relief in the form of food, water, medical supplies etc.
Refugees: Supporting those who are seeking safety.
Arrival of Relief and Refuge: Groups working to make sure the relief is arriving to those in need and refuge is being provided to those seeking safety.
I have chosen to give funds to Churches for Middle East Peace as it was recommended by those who have been coordinating the Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimage.
Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) is a coalition of 30 national Church denominations and organizations, including Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant traditions. It works to encourage U.S. government policies that actively promote a just, lasting and comprehensive resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, ensuring security, human rights and religious freedom for all the people of the region.
You can read how CMEP plans to split the funds raised here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1O61ds9atLPhEgyrx6l9pKqy0UKM30p_76Lt68LYhB_s/edit
I plan to walk the full 25 miles and am using my birthday as an additional reason to ask for your support. My initial hope is that I can get 10 donations of $25, e.g. 10 people to donate $1 for each mile I plan to walk. If you cannot give that amount, feel free to give what you can.
If you prefer to support the families and children of Palestine in a different way, such as by attending rallies or picking a different organization to give to, then I encourage you to follow your conscience and give in your own way.
Thank you for your support and keep praying and acting for peace in the world.
