Who Am I?
Hello everyone, My name is Waseem Moshtaha. Before the war, a short while ago, specifically in August, I graduated from university with honors, ranking first in my class after four years of studying Biotechnology. My studies included three environmental-agricultural projects contributing to the development of my country and supporting its local economy. I was honored by my university for my efforts in developing and implementing sustainable green projects.
Things have changed...
To call the last five months of my life in Gaza a nightmare would be putting it far too lightly. With the beginning of the bombardment and destruction, I began to lose almost everything - my home, my university, my projects...
I Have Been Stripped of Every Basic Human Right Imaginable, I Have Watched my Dreams, My Futures, and my Lives Wither Away AS We Hear A Constant Barrage Of Rockets Raining Around me, Not Knowing If each one will be my last.
After about a month of war, my family and I felt a significant threat to our lives in our home located in northern Gaza. It became necessary to evacuate to another area. Unfortunately, we found refuge in a shelter for refugees in the city, lacking the minimum humanitarian standards. We spent about twenty days there before moving to another shelter after the deteriorating conditions and the spread of infectious diseases in the first shelter. The situation in the new shelter was slightly better, but we were not safe from the terrifying shelling around the school. After the horror we experienced, we decided to move to live amidst the ruins of our destroyed home. Luckily, there was a room that hadn't been hit by the shelling, and we now reside there, enduring the bitter cold and lacking water and food as is the case in northern Gaza.
I NEED YOUR HELP
Unfortunately, as I mentioned, I live in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, which has not received humanitarian aid since the beginning of the war, five months ago. People here are without food, medicine, or even fuel for hospitals. Fortunately, we have solar panels that help us with some aspects of our lives, such as charging phones to stay connected with the outside world. For about two months from the start of the war, some food items were available, even in small quantities. However, with time, everything began to disappear from the markets. The presence of flour to make bread has become extremely scarce, and it is currently nonexistent. Hundreds of thousands of people are in need of food without any aid entering. We have started relying on locally available herbs and grains, but unfortunately, the agricultural land is very limited, and there is a significant risk to the lives of farmers cultivating these lands.
For a relatively long time now, we have been content with one meal a day to stay alive. I have started to lose a significant amount of weight, around 15 kilograms, since the beginning of the war. For over a month, I have been experiencing severe dizziness whenever I try to stand, along with a chronic headache. In recent days, my health has deteriorated significantly, and I am unable to move easily, especially in the morning. I struggled to go to the hospital, which lacks basic medical facilities. Fortunately, I managed to undergo a CBC analysis, revealing a result of hemoglobin was 9.3. The doctor diagnosed me with anemia due to malnutrition, emphasizing that continuing in this state could have severe consequences on my life. It's worth mentioning that my mother has diabetes, and medications for chronic diseases have been decreasing since the beginning of the war, and are currently nonexistent. My mother is suffering from serious complications, such as problems with retina, recurring due to the lack of medicines . Therefore, after losing hope in the improvement of the situation, the option of traveling has become the only choice that can address this situation. Unfortunately, the travel costs during the war are exorbitant and exceed our financial capacity multiple times. Additionally, there are other expenses related to staying in a hosting country until the end of the war in Gaza.
