Gaza Nurse: Rebuilding Family, Rekindling Hope

I'm Belal Alnwiri, a Registered Nurse from Gaza. I work at AlAqsa Martyrs hospital in the Gaza strip. I spend most of my days at the hospital, where with each entry, I pray I won't find my family in need of care in the ER. Every departure is accompanied by a silent plea to return safely to continue my duties. It's been a relentless ordeal, where every child's cry, every mother's prayer, and every father's tear weigh heavily on my heart. It's the kind of experience that compels you to keep going, despite the overwhelming challenges.

My youngest brother, Abood, is wearing his Real Madrid shirt and smiling, despite all the pain we've been through.

Every attempt at sleep brings haunting flashbacks of the scenes witnessed, with only prayers to spare oneself from becoming the next victim. However, on the 138th day of this conflict, the Israeli occupation forces bombed near our home, resulting in an irreparable loss. In that bombing, I lost my father, my brother, my sister, and my two-day-old niece, who were all martyred. Our home was almost completely destroyed. I never imagined living a day without my family, but this war shattered our dreams and stole our happiness.

Now, with only my mother, three brothers, and two sisters left, I find myself shouldering the responsibility for their well-being. However, under these harsh circumstances, we have lost everything. I seek your support to help my family stay resilient, as my father would have wanted, and to rebuild our home so we can once again live together, like any other family in the world.
