The mission of the Capital Region Food Program (CRFP) is to help reduce hunger in the Greater Concord, NH area through year-round distribution of food for individuals and families by securing financial donations and in-kind services, and by coordination, collaboration, and cooperation with other community distribution and social service agencies.
Since 1974, CRFP has distributed more than 3,600 tons of purchased and donated food—worth than $5,000,000—in our community through our year-round distribution project and annual holiday project. We’ve grown from supporting less than 100 families to more than 2,000 and our sustainable model ensures that, as long as there is a need, we’ll be here to meet it.
Over the past 50 plus years, the Capital Region Food Program has provided access to food during the holidays those community members experiencing food insecurity. The CRFP Holiday Project has evolve in response to the needs of those individuals we serve. In 2022 in response to the changing landscape, the Board of Trustees unanimously voted to pilot a voucher program that would be a more flexible, customizable, and sustainable food support program. The Board formally adopted this new model in 2023. It provides an opportunity to maximize the impact of community donations and reduce unintentional food waste. By providing families with more choices for their specific dietary and nutritional needs, CRFP can reduce unused food donations and create a more sustainable program. The voucher program helps ensure clients receive the right food they need.
Additionally, the CRFP operates its monthly Year Round Distribution Project (YRDP) which works with over 30 agencies throughout the year providing them cases of food the agency has selected at no cost to them; CRFP pays for the food and gives it to the agencies to help support their essential efforts. The YRDP played an integral role during COVID and accessing and distributing food to the partner agencies so they could continue to help those individuals experiencing food insecurity throughout the year. CRFP works with local businesses and more than 30 agencies—churches, food pantries, schools, and social services organizations—to distribute food. We work in collaboration, cooperation, and coordination with local organizations solving local problems, distributing more than $220,000 worth of food annually to our partners and recipients. See our full list of partner agencies. In the last 4 years the YRDP has distributed over 136 tons of food to over 30 different social service agencies with an estimated value of $324,000.
The Capital Region Food Program (CRFP) is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing hunger in the 18 communities of the greater Concord area.
