GCG Theatricals presents Chess the Musical
Donation protected
GCG Theatricals debut production, Chess the Musical is being brought to you on Facebook Live for free. However Theatre isn't "free" and all Licensing Fees for permission to put on the musical were paid out of pocket by Producer/Director Garrett Chandler.
The talented cast, most out of work waiting for the world to start again, donated their talent and time to bring something special to you. To bring you more Facebook productions through this shut down, as well as onstage productions when it's safe to do so, 50% of your donations will go towards paying off the licensing fee ($1300) whilst the other 50% will be divided amongst the cast as a stipend. Once the license is paid off, that money will go towards the next production for GCG Theatricals and 100% of the donations from then on will go to the actors.
The fundraiser could have simply gone completely to the license and then any left over could have gone to the actors, but compensation for the actors is an essential goal for GCG Theatricals. Too often are actors in community theatre productions taken advantage of with promises of "exposure" or doing it for "love of theatre" and made to work long rehearsal hours and put all of their energy, life, and time into their craft. Even offering a small stipend shows the actors they are a valuable and essential ingredient to making theatre happen and also being able to take care of and support actors attracts more artists to audition in the future and promotes diversity in the community.
