Gear for Great Teachers: Cheakamus Teacher Cabin Reno
Donation protected
Hi! I’m Alex, and for the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting the Cheakamus Outdoor School in Squamish by working with future trades students from BCIT programs to renovate cabins. Through these projects, we’ve inspired students with hands-on experience in net zero energy and zero emissions construction. This year, we're excited to be renovating the teachers' cabin, aiming for net zero energy with a super-insulated building envelope, new windows, a heat pump system, solar panels, and more.
The BC school teachers who come to Cheakamus do an incredible job, going above and beyond to educate kids about nature and the environment. These are teachers from across various school districts, teaching our own kids! However, the budget doesn’t stretch to cover small comforts like a cappuccino machine, Bluetooth speakers, a boot dryer, blankets, a small fridge, artwork, etc. — things that could make a big difference in their day-to-day lives.
I’m raising funds to help provide these little extras to give these hardworking educators a chance to recharge and enjoy their time on-site even more. Let’s show our appreciation for their dedication!
