Gehring Family Car Accident Support Fund

Hi, my name is Ashley and I created this GoFundMe on behalf of my grandparents, Judy and Edward Gehring. Judy and Edward were in a horrific car accident on Saturday, Aug 27 on their way to Montana for a family member’s funeral service. They were cut off on the Hwy when a semi truck driver pulled out towards them going to opposite direction and hit them head-on at 60 mph. Judy was medivacked to a full trauma hospital near the Washington border in Idaho, while Edward was taken to a separate hospital on the edge of Idaho near Montana.

Judy and Edward are sweethearts married for over 50 years, with a love you would write story books about. After great deliberation, Edward was reunited with Judy the next day, when they could finally check in and console each other.

Judy suffered 17 broken bones, including a compound fracture of the wrist, fractured collar bone, broken ribs (front and back), broken sternum, a concussion, a cracked vertebra, and bruising and contusions from head to toe. She had to be immediately rushed into surgery due to internal bleeding. Judy is undergoing multiple surgeries with different specialists to set the breaks and will require months in an inpatient facility before she can walk again. And will have to undergo physical therapy on her leg and arm.

Edward was lucky to walk away with minor injuries, including a concussion, scrapes, and bruises from head to toe.

We have been fortunate to have the family assisting in every way they can and continue to care for Edward and Judy while navigating the mounting costs of at least three months of expected inpatient care. Transportation and accommodations for Edward are not covered, including many other items, and their primary vehicle has been totaled. Edward will need to take as much time from work off as possible to be by Judy's side during this difficult time. Judy has a long journey ahead on the road to recovery, and Edward is trying to assist while also healing from his injuries.

My grandparents are some of the strongest people I have ever met, and I genuinely do not know who or where I would be without them. They are always quick to step in and help others in times of need, and it breaks my heart to see them struggling during this time.

Judy is a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and Edward is likewise a loyal and ever-loving husband, father, and grandfather.
