Gelek Wangmo funeral and support

 ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པདྨེ་ཧཱུྃ 
Gelek Wangmo was tragically killed in a multi-vehicle accident near Jasper, Alberta on Tuesday, August 7th.  

Gelek Wangmo was born in Tuting in northern India as a Tibetan refugee.  She was sponsored by Project Tibet Society under the Tibetan Resettlement Project which brought 1000 displaced Tibetans to Canada.  She arrived in Calgary in July 2015.  

Since coming to Canada, she has lived in Banff and was employed as a housekeeper at Rimrock Resorts Hotel.  She was also working part-time at an Indian restaurant in Banff.  She was working to support her family in India and was saving money for a trip in the winter to visit her aging mother.  

On Tuesday, she  was returning to Banff, from a day-trip in Jasper with three co-worker friends from the Indian restaurant, when their vehicle was involved in a head-on accident with a north bound vehicle.  According to eye witnesses, both vehicles burst into flames almost immediately.   All four occupants in their vehicle were killed and two bodies have burnt beyond any recognition.   Two occupants in the other vehicle were also killed.  

Gelek Wangmo (37) was single. She does not have any immediate family in Canada.

This fundraising is to help with the funeral arrangements, prayers services and to offer financial support to her family.

Project Tibet Society sponsored Gelek Wangmo as part of the resettlement of 1000 displaced Tibetans to Canada.  Gelek does not have any immediate family member in Canada.  Project Tibet Society has assumed all the responsibilities to assist her family in India with funeral arrangements and fundraising.  Gross receipt from this and other fundraising efforts will be given to her family in Tuting, India.
