Gen1-3 Ateliers

Gen1-3 began four years ago in Manchester as a collective that sought to be at the vanguard of a progressive culture - a society who challenged themselves to be greater. Founded and directed by Khalil Madovi, it began as a small family of craftsmen and artisans whose objective was to contribute to innovation and pioneering in the arts as a means to influence culture and wider society as a whole.

In its first year, Gen1-3 held live events, filmed documentaries, wrote blogs, music and short films, and even curated playlists. The aim is to use art as a tool to inspire people to live better lives in line with the universal notions of love and truth. For these reasons, information (and perhaps even more so, its dissemination) is hugely important to us. We believe that art is the most powerful communicative device we have available to us, and despite the potential of government plans to threaten the arts in education, we are excited that in other ways, independent creativity at a high level is becoming increasingly accessible. We want to take a share in the responsibility for that effort.

In 2016, Madovi moved from Manchester to London to attend the prestigious Central Saint Martins school of art. There he felt he could learn more about creative processes across a multitude of media, and how audiences respond to them, in order to inform the work done under Gen1-3. During that time, the company has undergone a slow process of deconstruction, allowing for stronger foundational functions and values to be set, ahead of what we hope to build in the future.

Now, in 2019, we break new ground.

The GEN1 ̊3 ATELIERS initiative, birthed in January of this year, is to be a network of workspaces for the contemporary artisan. Whatever the craft, our view is that creativity is one of society’s most significant catalysts for progression, and thus change. We want to build environments that can cultivate the innovative work that inspires forward thinking across a multitude of disciplines and lifestyles. In 2019, we will build our first music studio.

Aimed primarily (but not exclusively) towards independent/freelance artists and creatives, the first atelier aims to deliver bigger budget sounds and workflows at an affordable rate. Through a pleasant and approachable space with a carefully selected range of instruments and processors, we seek to give our clients the opportunity to enhance and distinguish their work from the crowd.
