Gender Affirming Care & Recovery for Shea Freedom

For those who know Shea Freedom, you already know that he is a being of light that's deserving of everything good in this world. Having emancipated into homelessness from the California State Foster Care System, Freedom used his gift of music to get himself off the streets and onto stages where he spent 10+ years advocating for Foster Youth, environmental issues and human equality. He is a facilitator of workshops, an educator, and a keynote speaker.

I have created this fundraiser to support Freedom in getting the emergency life and gender-affirming care he needs following his top surgery. Freedom is in a difficult situation following his top surgery 11/28/22. He is currently applying for jobs and is hoping to get to work as soon as possible following surgery. While continuing to educate himself and fulfill the prerequisites required to become a rock climbing guide certified by the American Mountain Guide Association.

Many of the jobs Freedom is applying for involve physical labor which presents a risk to his healing process (6 months). . For as long as I've known him, Freedom has contributed selflessly to so many communities. Shea has been the light in a dark room, a model of resilience and creativity in the face of hardship. Now, he needs our help and community care to move forward. He deserves to rest, heal, and celebrate this important milestone without worrying about whether he will have a job or a home immediately after surgery. (Capitalism sucks.)

Freedom worked a long time for surgery, which has been postponed over and over again. He's run into so many roadblocks that have made this process downright traumatic. Freedom deserves his healing process to be nothing short of peaceful, grounding and rejuvenating to mind body & soul.

As a black trans artist who has survived the foster care system, housing insecurity and so much systemic oppression, it's up to all of us to show up and support him to THRIVE in this lifetime. He deserves that and so much more. It's our responsibility to give him allll of the community care and uplifting that we can in his time of need through mutual aid.

Please give right away so that Freedom can find some peace of mind and healing, and so that he can continue to share his gifts and art with us all. And share this fundraiser far and wide so that we can create a miracle for Freedom.
