Gender Affirming Surgery Costs
Donation protected
Hello everyone my name is Adrian Coffey and I am a 28-year-old trans man. It is of no news or surprise that 2020 has been an incredibly difficult year for many people. But somehow throughout greif, despair, anxiety, and loneliness we have found a sense of unity and care for one another.
At the beginning of the year I lost a dear friend of mine who’s passing made me reflect on my life in a way that I have not visited in several years. At that point I begin therapy. Almost immediately following I went through an incredibly hard separation from my former partner of over six years and was on my own right at the time the pandemic hit. At that point I felt as if I had nothing to lose and everything to gain so I decided to embody my courage, let go of my the fears of being alone, and came out as my true self and live the authentic life that I knew that everyone deserved...and that I deserved.
Now well into my medical transition I am starting to gain confidence and love for myself in a way that can be only expressed with deep and immense gratitude to those who have built me up and supported me. Unfortunately the cost of gender affirmation surgery is out of range for me although I work two jobs, six days a week. “Top surgery” can cost anywhere between 9 and $12,000 and that doesn’t even cover the cost of not working for several weeks, consultations, commute, and any follow up visits that I may have to have following the surgery during my healing process. I am a fortunate individual to have health insurance but my insurance plan does not cover gender affirmation surgery. I am looking to raise half of my costs and apply for grants and save my earnings to pay for the other half.
If you have read this, if you plan to donate, know that I love you and I am grateful for your kindness.
