Gene Fuller & Family

My name is Holli and I am fundraising for my cousin, Gene Fuller, his beautiful wife, Michelle and their three children, Zeke (15), Isaiah (12) and Selah (10).

Gene grew up in Sodus, NY and graduated from Sodus High School in 1994. Soon after graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for 9 years in both Active Duty and Reservist positions. While enlisted, he was deployed to Kuwait where he bravely and loyally served his country and risked his life during a time of war. He returned to Eglin Air Force base in Destin, FL where he finished his time in the military. He met Michelle and they have called the area of Destin “home” ever since.

As Gene and Michelle established their life together outside of the military and started their family, everything was pointing toward a road filled with peace, prosperity and happiness. However, over the course of their 19 year marriage, Gene has been plagued with debilitating Mental Health Crises and PTSD that went undiagnosed for years - even though he sought medical care.

Unfortunately, undiagnosed and untreated mental health disorders do not go away and just the opposite, get severely worse over time. Gene has now come to a point in this battle where he is losing - unable to function in any day to day capacity anymore. He has been out of work off and on since June 2021 and has not been able to work at all since August. As the primary financial provider this has forced the family to sell their newly renovated home and move to a more manageable place they can rent. Gene also carried all of the health insurance at his civilian duty job on the Air Force Base, but due to his inability to work the premium has not been paid since July. Gene has suffered multiple emergency crises over the last 6 months requiring him to be transported by ambulance and hospitalized for days at a time.

Not only has this traumatized Gene but has also had a severe financial and emotional impact on Michelle - requiring her to play every role in their family on top of navigating this difficult road for Gene. Their children have experienced unimaginable emotional heart ache watching their father deteriorate.

Gene’s immediate and extended family have supported them by any means possible up to this point, but with looming medical bills, Gene currently hospitalized and the extremely lengthy paperwork process required to get Gene any type of services or disability payments - we are forced to reach out to our families, friends and communities to ask for help.
