God knew the day, God knew the time and God knows how much we will miss Gene Vasquez.
About two thousand years ago, a man, attempting to regain his self-respect, asked Jesus “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus responded by relating a story about a man, robbed, beaten, and left half-dead by the side of the road. A Levite and a priest walked right by him. They probably thought he was dead and their culture dictated that they could not touch a dead person, as it would have made them ceremonially unclean. Then a Samaritan man came by. Samaritans praised God, but they were rejected from Jewish culture. This Samaritan man stopped on the road, bandaged up the fallen traveler’s wounds, helped him into an inn, and told the inn keeper “Let him stay here for as long as he needs to, and I will return to pay the bill.”
If you knew Gene, you knew the similarities he had to the Samaritan man. The other things that stand out are how he was such a funny, loving, charismatic, and selfless person that deeply cared for his family and friends. Gene’s joyful smile, sense of humor and amazing hugs will always be remembered. He was a man of God who cared for strangers and friends alike.
This GoFundMe account has been made to help Vickie with the expenses that go along with a loved one passing. However, in Gene’s case, October 27, 2020 is graduation day.
2 Corinthians 5:8 – “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”
1 Thessalonians 4:13- But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.
