Generating Warmth: Send Power & Heat to Banner Elk

Hi, I’m Anna Barson, the project lead for Triangle Together, a grassroots initiative based in Durham, NC, created in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in Western NC. We launched the first large-scale donation drive in Raleigh-Durham on September 29th, and have since delivered an estimated 90,000 lbs of critical supplies to the Sentinel Foundation in Banner Elk, NC.

I first connected with the Sentinel Foundation during our initial supply delivery and have been coordinating with them directly since to support immediate and ongoing relief efforts. The Sentinel Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing crisis response to the hardest-hit, most remote areas of Banner Elk and Avery County. They are on the front lines, delivering vital supplies to communities still cut off from access due to destroyed roads and bridges.

Triangle Together is raising funds for generators and propane buddy heaters, which are urgently needed as families face weeks or even months without power. Generators cost $570 each and can power an entire household, while Buddy Heaters cost $100 each and provide enough warmth for a bedroom. These life-saving tools will help families stay safe and warm through the winter, where power is still not expected to return for several more weeks.

Every dollar raised will go directly toward purchasing these critical items for those in need, as served by the Sentinel Foundation. Our short-term goal is to raise enough funds for 50 generators and heaters by Friday, November 8th.
