Karenni Leadership College is community based organization in Ban Mae Surin, refugee camp#2. The school was established since 2008 and it was started by the cooperation of parents, leaders, and camp based organizations. The school motto is “By together as one, we can make a brighter future for our new generation.” Currently, there are 74 students and 11 staffs in 2023-2024 academic years of Karenni Leadership College.
Ban Mae Surin is a small refugee camp and it is the farthest distance to township/city of local Thai village, plus it is also the smallest camp among the refugee camps along the Thai-Burma border. As the situation of our camp, we do not get access to use the electricity since the camp was born in 1993. For that, the generator is one of the most important stationary for teaching and learning. We use generator every day for printing handout papers, worksheets, and for computer class as well in the school. There are 5 main programs of School and there are opening school, fundraising, field work presentation, leadership camp, and closing school. In each of school activity, we use projector, laptop and other electronic things. That is why generator is very useful and supportive one for school routine.
Teachers have to prepare lesson plan, the guidelines of assessment, question and answer papers as well. In the school, there are assignments, homework, group activities, and research doing in the camp that designed by class teachers giving to students for their studies is parts of school activity. To provide the correct process of learning and teaching, we need electricity to print out the instruction formats and other paper resources that to make students to be easier understanding for their learning. We use generator not only for staffs requirements in the office but also for the students’ paper such as essay paper and submit the summary-paper especially for social studies and leadership subjects. Basically, generator is main thing to run continuously the school routine and operation every year to support learning and teaching effectively in the school.
Currently, the generator that we used in previous years was broken and we are trying to buy a new one. However, we do not have a budget to buy it. Therefore, we are looking forward to seeing a donor to help us to buy it. The reason we propose a generator is only to provide the education for young people in our camp. According to the rotations of Thai authority for refugee camp, we only depend on generator to get access the electricity to help the teachers and students for their schooling and learning.
