Genia Family Support Fund
Donation protected
The Genia family needs our help and support. After beating colon cancer seven years ago, Kara's cancer is back with a vengeance. Kara has recently been diagnosed with stage IV metastatic colon cancer that has metastasized to the liver. The length of the two lesions on her liver has resulted in the cancer being currently inoperable, so Kara's course of action is to undergo chemotherapy. Kara will begin chemo on Sept. 14 and undergo four cycles of chemo. With each cycle, she will receive three chemo drugs along with a genetic-specific drug, under the care of Minnesota Oncology at Abbott Northwestern. This is likely the first of many iterations of chemo, with the goal being for the chemo to shrink and shift the locations of the lesions so they can become operable. Kara will be very, very sick as her body works to fight the cancer and endure the effects of the chemo. Kara has embarked upon the fight of her life.
Kara, a single parent and widow of 10 years, is the amazing, dedicated mother of three beautiful and very active children: Jack (age 14), Kaitlyn (age 11) and Michael (age 11). The severity of her cancer and the intensity of the chemo treatments will make it impossible for Kara to maintain employment during this time. Let's come together as a community to offer this family the financial support they need during this very difficult time.
Kara's parents (David & Geri Johnson), along with a friend of the family, have set up this fund. All funds raised here will be provided to Kara and the kids to help cover healthcare and household expenses, and most importantly, to provide for the futures of Kara's three children.
