A Farewell to Genie Williams
Donation protected
Count yourself blessed if you knew Genie Williams – it’s hard to find a brighter soul with a bigger heart and smile now that she is gone. You may (or may not) know that Genie suffered decades of pain from Lyme disease, uterine cancer, Type 2 diabetes, and heart problems. It is a testament to her spirit that she seldom complained and kept her sense of humor throughout years of dealing with these health issues. She was fun and funny, had a brilliant smile and infectious laugh – and she was never afraid to laugh at herself! Genie was tireless in her support of her friends and family, and always active in the community. One of her happiest times was when she had her own radio show at KAFM in Grand Junction, CO. She got the chance to share her love of music, and learned that it is not OK to say certain four-letter words on the air!!
To endure chronic pain for years took incredible strength – strength of mind, body, and spirit. Underneath the happy go lucky Genie was a person who had to overcome many obstacles and had to actively practice acceptance and forgiveness. She was a fighter, and she fought long and hard, but eventually her body wore out. Shortly after midnight on December 23rd, she took her last breath and left this world, pain free at last. Her beloved dog Pikka and her sister, Mari Howard, who had been caring for Genie several weeks, were by her side. Genie's favorite cousin Whitney Formby flew in from London to be with Genie as well, but unfortunately did not make it in time to say goodbye. However she was able to help in other ways.
The years of medical problems not only ended Genie’s professional career and ability to work, but also left her family with no funds to cover debts, bills and all the basic end-of-life expenses. Genie hated to ask for financial help, but now we’re asking all the many people whose lives she touched, and who loved her, to contribute to help us settle her affairs.
We thank you all for the encouragement, support and care you offered Genie in her journey with you. Our hearts go out to you in deep gratitude for anything you are able to give – no gift is too small (or too large)!
Your support will allow us to lay her to rest in so many ways.
Vaya con Dios, Genie.
With gratitude and appreciation,
Shanti Delsarte and Janice Quinn
