Gentry Family Memorial Markers
Donation protected
I am Robert Gentry of Many, LA, and I descended from Edward Earl Gentry, John Byrd Gentry, Joseph Clayton Gentry, Robert Lindsey Gentry, Silas Whitney Gentry, and Robert Gentry II. The list goes on, dating back to 1350, with Gentry ancestors in England I found in genealogical research and whose hometowns I visited.
The Gentrys listed above, including my father, Edward Earl, came from Baxter, Putnam County, Tennessee. Fourteen of these family members are buried in the Joe Bob Allison Cemetery south of Baxter, and others are buried in Harris Cemetery, also near Baxter.
There are needs at both cemeteries to properly mark and recognize Gentry family member graves. If markers are not placed and if the current markers are not maintained, the graves of these family members will eventually be lost to the ages.
This GoFundMe is for the following:
1. Place two memorial markers, one for Silas Whitney Gentry and one for Robert Preston Gentry II, in the Joe Bob Allison Cemetery.
2. Straighten and realign markers of 14 family members buried in the Joe Bob Allison Cemetery.
3. Place a Veteran's Monument for Robert Lindsey Gentry in the Joe Bob Allison Cemetery. (I applied to the Veterans Administration to do this, but their new policy only provides a marker recognizing service if there is no other marker present.)
4. Place a Veteran's Monument on the grave of Joseph Cephas Gentry in the Harris Cemetery.
These photos show a few Gentry graves at the Joe Bob Allison Cemetery, Ms. Anna Allison Burgess and myself. Ms. Burgess is a direct descendent of the cemetery's namesake, and she is working diligently to maintain and preserve the cemetery. She knows of our efforts to place these markers and straighten the fallen ones and has been very helpful.
Every donation, great or small, is deeply appreciated. As someone devoted to family history and genealogy, I can assure you that properly placed and maintained markers are critical to research. As a patriot, I wish to honor the sacrifice made by Gentry family members who served in the armed forces. Many thanks in advance for your consideration. Please join me in this effort.
Sincerely,
Robert Gentry
