Hello, my name is Jenn Braley. I am George and Linda's daughter-in-law. I have created this page with a lot of consideration, discussion with George and Linda, and hope on all of our part.
In the Fall of 2022, George became suddenly very ill. At the time he was driving his beloved school bus route, and processing over 200 cord of firewood a year. George suddenly was unable to drive his school bus without excruciating pain, and was unable to operate the equipment used to run his firewood business. In addition to the sudden crippling pain George was experiencing, he was losing strength by the day, and ended up being diagnosed with cancer of his blood. No cure is known, however Stem Cell Therapy has shown to give patients with this particular cancer a much better quality of life. George was ultimately faced with having to give-up school bus driving, and was no longer able to process firewood- his and Linda's main income.
George has spent the last year-and-a-half doing extensive treatment to be able to get his cancer to managed place that would allow him the option of Stem Cell Therapy. He was scheduled to begin this therapy in January of this year. As George's Oncology team worked diligently to prep George for the very intense Stem Cell therapy (George's largest hope in having some of his abilities and income back), they found a stent that had been placed several years ago to be in very poor shape. The discovery of the condition of this stent makes George indefinitely ineligible for the only therapy known to improve quality of life in patients with Multiple Myeloma. Repair/work to this stint has extreme risks due to George's current state of being.
Linda, his loving wife of 53 years, has brought him to, and sat through every treatment and appointment he has had thus far. This makes it very difficult for Linda to maintain her part-time employment- the employment they are relying so heavily on currently.
George has made and continues to make the difficult decisions to sell/give-up equipment and things he has enjoyed over the years to pay for every day bills and the travel to DHMC multiple times a week.
The future and how much of the future we can look to is very much unknown at this point. I am hoping we can all come together, and do what we can for George and Linda. If I had one wish, it would be for them to enjoy every bit of the time they have left together without the financial stress they are currently feeling.
I so very much appreciate you reading George and Linda's journey, I hope you will share this with your family and friends, and if you're able to make a financial contribution- we would be forever grateful.
Eternally Grateful,
-Jenn Braley on behalf of George and Linda.
