George Austin is a 45 year old husband and father. He was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 2007. MS is a disease in which the insulating covers of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged. This damage disrupts the ability of parts of the nervous system to communicate, resulting in a range of signs and symptoms, including double vision, muscle weakness, trouble with sensation, and trouble with coordination. Permanent neurological damage occurs as the disease advances.
Prior to being diagnosed with MS, George worked full time as a contractor for approximately 15 years with AT&T as an Electronics Technician. Even after his diagnosis, he continued to work until he was unable to safely perform his job duties.
Since George’s diagnosis, his MS has steadily progressed despite multiple treatments aimed at stopping or slowing the disease. George now requires the full time use of a power wheelchair to move about his home. In the past few months, transfer to and from a chair or vehicle has become increasingly difficult, and George has recently fallen trying to transfer to a vehicle for a physician appointment. George needs a reliable safe way to get to appointments and social outings. He does not qualify for Medicaid assistance or any government programs that would assist in acquiring a much needed handicap assessable van.
For a family that continues to endure tremendous challenges, they never stop looking for an opportunity to be a blessing and a help to others.
This is our time to be a help to them.
They have before them a need that seems to be insurmountable. But, with your help, collectively, we can meet this need of this most deserving family.
