George Bango Jr Funeral Expenses
Donation protected
George Bango, Jr., age 34, passed away on December 29, 2016 when he lost his fight with depression. Most of those who knew him will remember him as someone that was always making those around him laugh. George was an amazing father to his daughter, Taylor, who is 10. He wanted desperately to be a part of the life of his newborn son, Leland. He was a registered nurse who is remembered by countless patients for his compassion at the bedside during moments of illness and anxiety in the ER. He worked at Bedford Hospital in the ER and more recently as a prison nurse in WV. He was a loyal father, son, brother, grandson, family, and friend to many and will be greatly missed.
In the months leading up to his death, George had fallen in love with someone who broke his heart and kept him from his newborn son. In May, he threatened suicide. Instead of being placed in a hospital for psychiatric treatment, he was arrested for charges related to the firearm he carried that he intended to use on himself. At no point did he make threats towards anyone other than himself. He spent 4 months in Bedford County jail, 97 days of which was spent in isolation due to his threat to harm himself with little psychiatric treatment during this time, only deepening his sense of hopelessness and abandonment. He was released in September to face the same loneliness coupled with the financial fallout of his actions. In October he posted in a public forum on social media the story surrounding his arrest and “I was in such a dark place in my life, and regret the way things had turned out. Now I am trying to get my life back together piece by piece. My actions that night may have destroyed my chances of ever seeing my son that was born in July, and I have to deal with that. Just a reminder that everyone who has a smile on their face isn’t always the happiest.” He spent the next months having lost nearly everything, trying desperately to put the pieces back together, to gain visitation with his son, and to find a light at the end of this dark tunnel. Unfortunately, on Thursday, December 29, 2016, George chose to end his suffering with suicide.
Now, as his family grieves and struggles to understand and accept the unthinkable, we are burdened by the cost of his final arrangements. There was no life insurance to cover these costs. Memorial services and cremation costs are $5200 in addition to the multiple other miscellaneous costs involved. Many friends of George and his family have asked “What can I do?” and “if there’s anything you need…”. We are hoping that by doing this GoFundMe campaign, that we can offer a way for family and friends to help in a meaningful way. Any donation, small or large, will be accepted with gratitude and appreciation. Any donations above and beyond those needed to pay George’s final expenses will be placed in a fund for his daughter, Taylor. The family appreciates every one of your continued comments, thoughts, and prayers.
