George Contreras Lake Street Fire Fund
UPDATE #4:
Thank you to all of the new people who have donated! George wants everyone to know how thankful he is to everyone. He told me that he tears up reading through the comments here, and I know it means so much to him to have the support of the community behind him.
We are waiting to find out where George can move his non-operating van so a dumpster can be put in the driveway, so cleaning out the house has been delayed a few days. If you would like to be added to the email list of volunteers willing to help clear out and clean up his home, or if you would like to help with the eventual rebuilding of his home, please email me at [email redacted]. I'll be sure to send out an email when we are ready to start work!
He now has a mini fridge and no longer needs a dog house. Thanks to everyone who offered to donate either of those things!
UPDATE #3:
We reached our $20,000 goal!! Thank you to everyone for your kindness and support!!
Here is some additional info regarding things George needs for now.
- He is a size 34/38 in pants and a 13 in shoes.
- He could use a mini fridge
- If you bring by food for him, he's vegetarian.
- His surviving dog is sleeping outdoors at night, so if someone has a dog house they are willing to donate, please let me know. The dog has a bed and blankets now, but it's been cold at night, so a little shelter would be nice.
If you would like to be added to the email list of volunteers willing to help with clearing out the house or help eventually building the new one, please contact me with your email address and phone number.
Thank you again to everyone!!!
UPDATE #2:
We reached our second goal of $16k!!! Because of your generosity and encouragement, I’m raising it to $20k next. I am also looking into the best way to coordinate the possible rebuilding of George’s home, as it has been red tagged by the city. If you have any contacts in construction, please have them contact me at [email redacted]. Thank you!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Wow!! We were able to raise over $10k for George in 12 hours! Because of the outpouring of love and support, I decided to take the advice many of you have suggested and raise the goal to see if we can help George out even more! Thank you so much for all of your kindness. Please continue to share! George is so grateful for all of you!! ❤️
***************Please help our neighbor, George Contreras, after the devastating fire at his Lake Street home in Burbank last night.
George works part time as a crossing guard for the school district and his home insurance had just lapsed. He lost one of his two dogs in the fire. He has no family and doesn’t know what is to happen after losing the home he’s lived in for 53 years.
Please give whatever you can. No amount is too small. Thank you!
