George Downing -London Marathon- Bowel Cancer UK
Hello! For those who don't know me, I'm George.
Running the London Marathon has been that one thing I've always wanted to do but always found a reason not to until recently...
Both my dad and now very sadly and more recently my uncle have been diagnosed with bowel cancer which has inspired me to want to run the London Marathon on 21st April 2024 for Bowel Cancer UK. I'm on a mission to raise £2,500 for this charity that means so much to me and my family and I'd really appreciate any donations and support to help me on my journey. I may be a professional flat jockey but running 26 miles is a whole new challenge!!
Back in February 2016 my dad was diagnosed with very advanced bowel cancer - it's a day I will never forget. He ended up having major surgery that lasted 9 hours, many complications and 6 months of chemotherapy.
His recovery was tough but he never moaned and was always positive and determined. Turn the clock forward to today and he's such an inspiration to me, the best role model and so determined to live life to the full every day. If he can get through this then I'm sure I can run the London Marathon and make him and my family proud whilst raising some money to help with the medical advancement in the detection and treatment of this terrible disease.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story!
