Dear friends of George Gers,
As many of you are aware, our family home was lost in a devastating house fire in the wee hours of the morning, 12/29/20. (In case 2020 could get any harder, well it just did.)
Everyone involved in this catastrophic event is profoundly grateful that all residents were able to evacuate safely, and share in the deep sadness for the two pets that perished .
It is very heartening for our family to see the silver lining of how the Crested Butte community has come together in support of all these dear people in such sudden need.
Collectively moving through waves of shock, grief, gratitude, disbelief, loss, and finding our way towards acceptance.
It occurs to us that our beloved father George Gers is also in need of support from his community. Of course the total loss of ones family home is in so many ways irreplaceable. In terms of the decades of rich memories, the lived experience of creating a loving home, the many years of hard work that went into constructing, creating, maintaining, and improving a uniquely beautiful home...reduced to ash overnight.
Over the past few decades, once we kids were grown and gone, George lovingly dedicated the house to providing affordable living space to young and working people in the community. He has been very clear in this commitment to helping to maintain the heart of the town by providing realistic shelter for residents.
