George Harcup - Ecuador Expedition 2024

My name is George Harcup, I am 15 years old, and I have been given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Ecuador for a 4-week expedition with Camp International in 2024 with other students from my school.

It is a four-week trip and will include living in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, vital community development work, environmental projects and wildlife conservation. I will also be taking on the challenge of completing a 5 day trek to reach the summit of three different peaks in the Andes Three Peak Challenge.

This trip will allow me to explore different cultures and to work alongside communities example projects include :

• educating children

• building schools/classrooms

• improving their health & welfare

• helping install fresh drinking water facilities

• planting trees for environmental protection, and much much more.

• Community development and environmental protection

• Amazon rainforest regeneration

• Food security

• Improving sanitation facilities

I am so excited to be going on an expedition like this as it allows me to help make a big difference in people's lives and gives me a unique insight into the challenges faced by rural communities. This will be a big challenge for me as I myself have a diagnosis of autism and I am having to prepare and work very hard. This opportunity will take me completely out of my comfort zone but this is a challenge I am fully embracing. I believe the experience will greatly improve my cultural awareness and provide me with a deeper understanding on how to develop my own life skills which will enable me to achieve my fullest potential.

I am fundraising to cover the cost of the expedition, I will also be holding various fundraising events, from bake sales to sponsored walks, and there will be a theatre/cabaret show thrown in for good measure. I would be incredibly grateful for any possible donations you could make towards my fundraising, no matter how small, as every little helps towards this once-in-a-lifetime trip.
