George Richard Bartl MD
Dr. George Bartl passed away peacefully in his own home on January 28, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. George was born in Detroit MI on 9/13/1937 to parents Genevieve Glowacki Bartl and George John Bartl. George served as a Captain in the United States Air Force where his passion for helping others and his love for aviation began.
George earned his MD at Wayne State University and completed his Neurosurgical Residency at Detroit Grace Hospital. In 1971, Dr. Bartl began private practice at Neurologic Associates of Waukesha as a board-certified Neurosurgeon. Dr. Bartl was always proud of the many lives he was able to save and he became a well-known and highly respected Neurosurgeon in the greater Milwaukee area.
George and his wife of 61 years, Carol Wiedbusch Bartl, shared a great love for travel that resulted in many exciting adventures in far away and exotic locations. From skiing in Switzerland to climbing Manchu Pichu, George always had a zest for adventure. He truly relished opportunities to travel with his daughters and their families to various adventures around the globe.
As an accomplished pilot and avid aviator, he was able to visit his beloved daughters often as they relocated around the country. His aircraft was always “fueled and ready to go”. In his retirement years, George enjoyed an idyllic life of sunshine and golf in the Naples, FL area.
George is survived by his wife, Carol Wiedbusch Bartl, his sister Gloria Bartl Lutz, his 3 daughters, namely Elizabeth Marquardt (Clint), Catherine Nolte (Jake Wood) and Dr Lynn Bartl (Steve Steidl) and 6 grandchildren: Gena, Jacob, Lauren, Hunter, Sarah and Morgan and he will be greatly missed by all.
A very special thank you to the Arlington of Naples, Avow hospice care and The Alzheimer Support Network. These compassionate tender heroes allowed George to live the end of his life in his own home with grace, comfort and dignity.
