Support the Gerber Family’s ALS Journey

Dear community-

Our vivacious and fun-loving mother, Colleen Gerber, was diagnosed with ALS in August of 2022. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS; also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease) is a progressive, neurodegenerative disease that impacts the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. As their nerve cells break down, ALS patients lose the ability to move, speak, eat, and breathe. Sadly, because there is no cure or significant treatment for the disease, ALS is a terminal illness with an average prognosis of 2-5 years from the time of diagnosis.

As you can imagine, this was a devastating diagnosis for our family, and we are continually adjusting to a new normal that is difficult to keep up with as the disease progresses. That said, we are choosing to focus on the loving family, friends, and community members that surround us and have offered their support.

While it can be hard to ask for help, we are committed to helping Colleen and her husband, Kenny, create an environment where they can both experience comfort and dignity throughout this journey. In order to make that experience a reality, we are asking for financial gifts to support some of the highest cost needs that the Gerbers will have in the coming months. They include:
